A sevenfold increase in the cost of natural gas during the year and a twofold increase in the price of electricity in Ukraine will increase the share of energy resources in the cost of bakery products by a factor of three – from 5-7% to 15-20%.

As the president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers (UBA) said on October 7 Yuri Duchenko, this circumstance, taking into account other factors, will lead to a rise in the price of bread by 10–25%.

“Growth in gas prices by seven times compared to the prices of the previous year and a doubling of the cost of electricity will obviously lead to an increase in their share in the cost of bread. According to our estimates, at peak energy prices, their share in the price of a loaf will increase to 15–20%,” the head of the All-Union Commercial Association Interfax-Ukraine quotes.

He recalled that during the period of more relaxed energy prices, their share was 5-7%.

According to Duchenko, 90% of large and most small bakery enterprises use gas for the production of bread and bakery products, while gas accounts for 60% of the industry's energy consumption structure, and 40% for electricity.

Among other factors for the rise in prices for bread, the UARP president also mentioned the doubling of the price of sugar and vegetable oil, as well as the rise in prices for wheat by 27-29% over the year. Inflation, which accelerated to 10%, also contributed.

As reported EADaily, earlier in Ukraine there was a sharp increase in meat prices – some types of meat products increased in price by 20%.
