Museberry Art Cafe is not just a place where you can enjoy a dessert or a business lunch. Here you can always meet one of your friends, get to an interesting master class and listen to high-quality jazz. Ekaterina and Ivan Surnin, the owners of the Museberry restaurant, told how to live and work under one roof.

WHERE DOES IT START?

Katya graduated from the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of KSU, worked on the telephone in the trust service. A charming red-haired girl makes toys out of wool, draws and writes books. Ivan is a graduate of the art and graphic faculty. He often disappears in his workshop – together with his friends he fixes old and assembles new bicycles.

«On the day we met, we argued that my girlfriend and I would take a taxi from the Kirovsky Bridge to CHPP 1 faster than he and his friends on bicycles. Imagine my surprise when they won the race! Even that day I knew that we would be together.”

DO TOGETHER

We met in the summer of 2014. On New Year's Eve we went to St. Petersburg. There, inspired by local coffee houses and bars, they formulated the idea of ​​creating a similar place in Kursk.

“In St. Petersburg, on Gagarinskaya, there is an art club “Books and Coffee”. Katya had an idea to make such a place in our city. The funny thing is that we never got inside the club. When we arrived, the coffee shop was already closing and we had to go to the bar next door. But we had heard a lot about this space, so we understood what it was about.”

Upon their return, the guys immediately decided in what place they want to make a restaurant. The building on Sadovaya has long attracted their attention. The main difficulties arose just because of him.

“The main snag is that this building is a monument of cultural heritage. Any external transformations must be coordinated first with the Committee of Culture, and then with Architecture. Many requirements for signage, facade, etc. I had to redo the project several times, but in the end everything worked out. Maybe not quite as planned.”

On April 25, 2015, in Yustitsia, the guys signed an agreement to rent a building for a restaurant. Immediately after that, they went to the registry office and signed. And from that day on, the Surnin family began serious preparations for opening their own art space. To realize the idea, Katya and Vanya had to sell the apartment. With the money received, the repair was launched.

“For some reason, everyone wanted to help us, and it was great.”

“Everything can be dealt with, the main thing is not to lose heart and not go astray, not to be afraid of anything. The whole design was drawn by Vanya. We photographed the wall with the showcase on the phone, and then, in Paint, we selected which color looks best.In the workshop, I painted boards, which now on the ceiling and lay out a tile in the kitchen.

The name is like a title for an article. It should reflect the main essence of what lies under it. The merger of the English words “muse”- muse, inspiration, state of thoughtfulness and “berry”- berry, grain- arose unexpectedly.

Katya is gentle, modest and airy. And Vanya is purposeful, strong and cheerful. The interior of the restaurant and the colors they have chosen, indeed, characterize the owners. The Surnins family of the very beginning wanted to make not just a cafe, but a creative space. Musberry hosts musical evenings, master classes, lectures and discussions. “We are for any art!” Says the owners.

Museberry was conceived as a confectionery. But then the guys changed the direction, turned on business lunches and standard restaurant dishes. However, sweets remain their favorite part of the menu.

“I myself are engaged in the development of our sweets. I am looking for recipes on the Internet, experimenting with ingredients, trying to cook, and only then do we bring one or another dessert on the menu. What is anyone, and I will go to the kitchen and prepare it! ”

The main rule of the successful business of Surnines is called the famous axiom: to do what makes pleasure. And if you do this with a native person, it still simplifies it.

“Perhaps business trainers and psychologists will say that this is wrong, and it is necessary to distinguish between work and family life. Maybe someday, we will come to this, but now, this is not just a business, this is a lifestyle. ”

“To build a business with a husband or wife is much easier. You already trust each other. But trust is the most important thing for a common business. ”

For the entire time of repair and work of the restaurant, they had a couple of weekends. But it is important for them to bring their job to perfection and only then take a little rest.

“We must do everything for visitors. But sometimes I look and understand: “Yes, we love this color. But we listen to this music, we really like the picture … ”There are some things that we personally like in the cafe. And little by little, this place turns into our bedroom. But people like it, so it’s quite good. ”

Behind the glass showcase cut by the guys from the plywood deer. And above him – socks connected by Vanina. The entire atmosphere of the restaurant is saturated with comfort, which comes, first of all, from the owners themselves. Ideas for the improvement of a musical nest appear every day. And it is very convenient when you can discuss them at least three in the morning.
