Only verified authors or the choice of a freelancer through the eyes of the customer

A freelancer who has learned to understand the needs of customers is doomed to success. Therefore, today we will talk about the criteria by which customers choose contractors and what mistakes remote workers make when trying to get an order.

Straight to the facts

On one Russian freelance exchange, a survey was conducted among TOP participants. The survey involved 300 people who answered the question: “What do customers pay attention to first of all when choosing a contractor?”. Here’s what the freelancers said:

  • 66% portfolio;
  • 18% – communication style;
  • 10% – reviews;
  • 6% – other criteria.

Customer responses were slightly different:

  • 39% portfolio;
  • 38% – communication style;
  • 23% reviews.

The results of the survey show that freelancers do not fully understand what is important to clients. As you can see, the portfolio and the manner of communication with the employer have almost the same value. And the reviews for which beginners are ready to perform cheap or even free tasks are far from important for everyone. Strive to get strong work in the portfolio, not positive reviews for dubious projects.

Communication with the client: main mistakes

Not many freelancers pay attention to how and what they write to potential employers. The greatest number of mistakes is made already at the first stage – applying for a project. 80% of applications look something like this: “I will do it, I will do it, I have a lot of experience in this topic, write – we will agree, contact us”, etc. Or even worse, a standard message that seems to be automatically left under each tender.

Clients do not notice such monotonous applications, and some of them ignore them on principle. No matter how high your rating on the exchange is, the employer will not respond to the message “ready to complete”. If you see that the “I will do” bid won the auction, then be sure that the freelancer wrote to the customer in private messages in advance, agreed on everything, and only then submitted the application. This is how professionals work.

The application for the project should contain information about your experience (preferably with examples), price and terms, if this is not indicated in the task itself. Do you have similar work – give a link. There are no similar ones, offer to familiarize yourself with the portfolio. There is no need to turn the application for the project into an essay “about me”. Use professional vocabulary, it makes you more solid. And the main advice – do not wait for the client’s decision, immediately write to him in private messages.

Ranking the biggest freelancer mistakes

We conducted our own survey and found out what most displeases, and sometimes angers, customers working on exchanges.

  1. Freelancers don’t read the terms of the tender. Almost everyone who took part in the survey noted that a third, or even more, of candidates do not finish reading the description of the order. For example, the client asks to immediately send examples of work or indicate the cost and timing. As a result, they receive applications “I will do” and “contact”.
  2. Standard requests. We have already said that pre-written messages or empty phrases “ready to do” do not work. Come up with something original.
  3. Price increase. Most of all, clients are angry with freelancers who write a price in the application 2-3 times higher than the specified budget. If you are not satisfied with the price – do not participate in the tender.
  4. Freelancer missing. Clients are alarmed when the performer does not get in touch for several days. And okay, applied and disappeared. And there are those who disappear with the order. Even if you complete the project on time, the client is unlikely to contact you again.
  5. Illiteracy. It turns out that employers do not trust performers who write with errors. And it does not matter who they are looking for: a designer or a programmer. Install a spell checker in your browser and don’t lose customers.

Looking for the perfect freelancer

We also found out in the survey that almost all customers are ready to work with one contractor for a long time. After all, they also have to spend a lot of time, effort and money on creating an order, studying profiles, portfolios of all candidates, paying for test tasks, etc. That is why professionals are never left without work. We learned what qualities customers value most in their employees:

  1. Professionalism. There is nothing to explain here. If you do quality work, you will not be left without orders.
  2. Responsibility. Clients appreciate the serious attitude to the project. Attention to detail, regular reports and strict adherence to deadlines – this is what your responsibility will show.
  3. Caution. The ability to read, understand and clearly follow the TOR or the requests of the employer is invaluable.
  4. Creativity. The philanthropist must think outside the box. Many clients don’t know what they want until you show it to them.
  5. Sociability. Even a remote employee should be in touch during working hours. Never be out of sight for a few days. You need to leave – warn. It is also important to be friendly, interested in the project and submit ideas for its improvement.

What shapes the image of a freelancer?

We have already found out that the image of a remote worker is mainly formed by the portfolio, communication style and reviews on the stock exchange. In addition, customers look at how the profile is designed. Often unconsciously, but clients prefer performers with a real name and a real photo. Therefore, do not hide behind fictitious nicknames and confirm the reality of your profile in all sorts of ways offered on the exchange.

According to the results of surveys, first of all, clients pay attention to the portfolio. How to make a professional portfolio you can read in our article “Secrets of creating a portfolio. Samples and examples”. If you pay due attention to this issue, then with each visit of the customer to your page, you will receive an order. Think carefully about the text of the application, because the first impression of you depends on it.

Clients themselves do not perceive the application as one of the stages of checking a freelancer. But, as practice shows, it depends on what you write under the tender announcement whether you get a job or not. Write concisely and to the point, leave links to examples of work, indicate the presence of additional skills. And even better – go beyond what is permitted and immediately write to the customer in a PM. Don’t wait to be chosen, choose yourself.

When, after many sleepless nights, the diploma is finally ready, I want to pass it and forget it. But the university will not lag behind the student so easily. After all, the full text of the diploma was read only by the supervisor, and a whole commission will gather to evaluate it. Therefore, in many respects, his assessment depends on how the student defends his diploma.

So what is a successful defense?

  • Competent protection text
  • positive diploma review
  • confident answers to commission questions

In the introduction to the course it is necessary to indicate many important points. One of them is methodology. The student is required to indicate what methods he will use in the study of the topic. This is not the easiest task, and often students cannot cope with this task themselves. In this case, you can contact us. Our specialists will write you a paper of any complexity, and you can discuss the price with them personally.

Speech structure

Of course, what exactly to say in the defense depends mainly on the topic of the thesis and on what exactly is written in it, but there are general recommendations that are suitable for everyone.

  • First of all, we need to greet the members of the evaluation committee. (“Dear members of the attestation commission! Your attention is presented to the final qualifying work on the topic …”)
  • Introductory part. Here you need to reveal the topic and identify the issues that are raised in the work.
  • Relevance of the topic. At this stage, it is important to prove the relevance of the chosen topic and the degree of its development in other people’s works. Indicate the subject, object, objectives and purpose of the study.
  • Theme disclosure structure. Here you just need to list the paragraphs that are in the work and briefly describe them.
  • Problem statement. To confirm the relevance of the topic, it is necessary to state the problem and indicate the debatable opinions on this matter.
  • Conclusions. At the end of the speech, the commission should hear the conclusions that the student came to in the course of writing the diploma, in which there are ways and methods for solving the stated problems.

On the one hand, it seems that it is much easier to write a graduation speech than the diploma itself. However, high-quality speech is a skillful squeeze out of the work, as well as its competent presentation. And it often happens that a diploma is written with the highest score, and a student gets a worse grade. Therefore, if there is a lack of self-confidence, you can order a speech on our website. And then the probability of failure due to bad speech will disappear. After all, we give a twenty-day guarantee for the work, and if something does not suit you, you can demand that the author finalize the order for free. We make sure that students are satisfied, so if the final version of the work does not meet the stated requirements, you will get your money back.

Formal requirements

When writing a speech for a thesis, you must also take into account that there are purely formal requirements.

  • Time. Do not forget that there are many students, but the commission is one. Therefore, the time for a defensive speech is regulated and ranges from 5 to 7 minutes. At the same time, you should remember about the time that will be spent on commission questions.
  • Intonation. Where, no matter how on the defense of a diploma, is it important to win over listeners? Therefore, it is better not to read the speech monotonously, making accents with intonation.
  • Style. When presenting a speech, it should be remembered that the main goal is understanding on the part of the commission. Therefore, you should not be too smart, but you can’t switch to colloquial speech either. In this matter, you need to observe the golden mean.
  • Pronouns. As in the diploma itself, it is important to remember during the defense that although the author of the diploma is clearly spelled out, there are a lot of true owners of knowledge reflected in the work (the authors of all the sources the student relied on plus the supervisor), so first-person pronouns are not appropriate here.
  • Questions. After the end of the speech, questions from the commission will inevitably follow, and you need to be ready for them. Suggested questions should be written down in the course of writing the thesis, work through all the questions that arose during the pre-defense, and you can also look at the questions at the end of chapters from textbooks on this topic.
  • Pre-protection. In such a matter as defending a diploma, it is better not to be presumptuous and neglect pre-defense. On it, you can practice giving a speech and write down possible questions from the audience. This will allow you to feel more confident in the official defense.

Of course, these are only recommendations, and no one forces you to strictly follow them. However, the rejection of some positions during the defense will create additional questions from the certification committee, which is not always loyal. Therefore, it is best to think through all possible questions and answer them in advance in a defensive speech. Then the teachers will have a minimum of questions, and they will be grateful for the saved time.
