Project of the All-Russian Unified Database of Chipped Animals ANIMAL-ID™ started in 2004. The reason for the creation of the Database was the increase in demand for an electronic identification system on the part of animal owners and veterinary enterprises in connection with the entry into force on July 3, 2004, Regulation of the European Parliament No 998/2003which determined that domestic animals (dogs, cats and ferrets) traveling across the borders of the European Union must be identified by a microchip or a distinct brand; at the same time, the transitional period for the stamp will be 5 years, after which the microchip will become the only identifier.
