The Russian national team of ninety-four athletes flew to Buenos Aires to participate in the III Summer Youth Olympic Games. The national team included five athletes from Yekaterinburg – tennis player of the Youth Sports School No. 8 Lokomotiv Kamilla Rakhimova and pupils of the VIZ Football Sports School Pavel Karpov, Maxim Okulov, Pavel Sysolyatin and Kirill Yarullin.

Stanislav Pozdnyakov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee, greeted the team at Sheremetyevo Airport in a solemn atmosphere. He expressed confidence that we would hear the Russian anthem more than once in the sports arenas of Buenos Aires.

There are only two tennis players in the Russian national team, one of them is Kamilla Rakhimova (coach is Yulia Pilchikova). To get a place in the national team, high demands were placed on athletes – it was necessary to be among the 12 strongest players in the ranking of the World Women's Tennis Association (WTA) or be the first in the ranking of the Russian tennis tour among girls under 19 years old.

For the first time in the history of tennis in the Sverdlovsk region and school No. 8 Lokomotiv, Camilla will defend the honor of the city, region and country at the largest and most significant competitions among boys and girls from 15 to 18 years old – the III Summer Youth Olympic Games.

The training camp of the youth football team has been held since September 26 at the Aquarium Hotel in Krasnogorsk. Upon its completion, the coaching staff under the leadership of Sergei Skorovich determined ten players who were included in the final squad of the national team taking part in the first mini-football tournament in the history of the Youth Olympic Games.

The Russian squad will perform in group B, where its rivals will be peers from Costa Rica, Brazil, the Solomon Islands and Iran. Group A will feature teams from Slovakia, Iraq, Egypt, Panama and Argentina, for which the Olympics will be home. The top two teams from each group will advance to the playoffs.

Athletes of the Yekaterinburg VIZ Football Sports School Pavel Karpov, Maxim Okulov, Pavel Sysolyatin and Kirill Yarullin are part of the national team.

“I am very pleased with the prospect of going to Argentina for the Youth Olympic Games. I will try to prove that the choice of the coaching staff was not accidental,” says the goalkeeper of the Russian youth team, Kirill Yarullin from Yekaterinburg.

Recall that the III Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held from 6 to 18 October 2018 in Buenos Aires (Argentina). You can follow the results of the competition on the official website.
