The German national team beat the team of Slovakia in the group stage match of the Ice Hockey World Championship, and the decisive goal was scored in the last minute. This is the fourth victory of the Germans at the World Cup.

The meeting ended with the score 3:2 (0:0, 1:2, 2:0). In Germany, goals were scored by Mark Michaelis, Markus Eisenschmid and Leon Draisaitl. The Slovaks responded with accurate shots by Andriy Sekera and Libor Gudacek. The third, decisive course of the game, the puck from the Germans was at the gates of Slovakia for half a minute before the final whistle.

This is the second time in the championship when the hosts of the tournament lose at the very end of the meeting. In a match with Canada, forward Stone scored the winning goal 1.8 seconds before the whistle.

Germany have won their fourth league title and continue to lead Group A. Slovakia have only won one match against the USA and are in sixth place.

The Germans will play the next match on May 18 with Canada. Slovaks on May 17 will play with the French.
